Steven Yang Bio

Steven Yang is a contemporary artist living in Portland Oregon. Steven received his BA in Painting from the University of Oregon. In addition to painting, Steven also works in sculpture, collage, film, and is also a music producer currently working on his debut album.

Steven has just launched a brand new batch of acrylic on canvas paintings at the Red e Cafe in North Portland. With a renewed enthusiasm for painting, he plans on releasing many more works in the near future. For a sneek peek at the new 2011 works please click here.

Steven's 2010 mixed media paintings are heavily influenced by Dunhuang Buddhist cave art from the Mogao Grottoes in NW China. With Dunhaung situated at the apex of the Silk Road, Dunhuang cave art is known to be an international style fusing Tibetan, Chinese, and Indian influences. It is this fusion of influence that lends itself towards even more influence. Having lived and worked in the Pacific Northwest in recent years, Steven hopes to continue the innovation left behind by Dunhuang artists, by fusing this innovative art form with contemporary influences.
